Dear September,
I said wasn't going to blink
but I must have!
Because you came and went
sooooo fast!
You gave me fresh memories
another chapter that is creating a fabulous book with lots of color
new painting projects
sunny days
cool mornings
anticipation of pumpkins stacked high on my porch
gorgeous days to savor the last swim of the season before the Closed sign is hung...
hard lessons in the journey of parenting
{why do I think there are more to come}
a ER visit with the same daughter who broke her arm 4 months ago....
this time thinking she broke her jaw...
again at school
during gym...
we left the ER with pain medication
a very swollen chin
and 3 loose teeth
Kindergarten adventures that also include a cold
that wont go away...
&
now has turned into an ear infection
with all night reminders of the newborn stage
for 3 nights straight
every 2 hours of crying
2 fresh bottles of Amoxicillin now greet me when I reach for the milk...
all this
&
my very first experience with
Homecoming Week
as the parent of a freshman...
really
me...
life
is now
one
wild
ride
and the ducks are in charge!
It's official...
I've broken out my
Wellies!!!
xo,

updated: I should have added that after thinking my daughter had a broken jaw we left with good news of just a badly bruised jaw.... swelling and 3 loose teeth.

I wrote this post sitting at my kitchen island with a kitchen full of family noise :)

coat of armor

This morning called for a little extra TLC

...for me...

as I reached my hand into my closet

I felt the magnetic pull

to pieces of clothing that would give me my

coat of armor for the day

cloth that would wrap me in a gentle embrace
as I'm about to leave my bedroom to go conquer the morning crowd I heard in the kitchen
my hand swipes one of my go to necklaces that once placed around my neck
whispers to me "you are STRONG"
which I only start believing after my first sip of hot caffeine

yellow flats that make my toes smile....

{yes toes can smile}

they anchor my step

my mood lighter
make me hopeful that on this new day
there is a whole bunch of good for me to find....

lunches are magically packed without a fuss
breakfast dishes are licked clean
one chickadee is off to practice the piano
library books are located packed
A Week or B Week is figured out for my elementary school kiddos
by me course...
who thought of A weeks and B weeks?
I could gently scold them for tasking my brain this way so early in the morning...
does anyone else's schools have this system?
And if so how do you keep it straight?
If i don't quickly figure this out my family just may find me collapsed on the floor in surrender...
holding up a flag....
i give up
My BA degree did not prepare me to keep track of 5 schedules!
I make my 2 trips to 2 different locations with
nice ear pleasing chatter going on all around me
the kind that lets me
tune out
&
listen to Sara Bareielles piping through the speakers
with my car on automatic pilot
it knows our well traveled route to and from school
quick kisses are given out
with don't forget reminders
one last
i love you for the whole school to hear...
cause I'm that kind of mom!
I believe you can't say it enough
or
hear it enough
my kiddos may think otherwise
but
to bad for them..
I'm not changing!!!
I turn back for home
feeling sweet victory
&
thoughts of
thankgoodness for "coat of armors"
that make me
a
believer in the power of fashion
especially on Monday mornings!!
Here's to you
&
wishing you a week wrapped in a gentle embrace
with
plenty of reminders
that
you are strong!!!

To say a warm welcome to lovely Autumn!

Can you image my delight as I was zipping through Target

when I saw these John Derian Silhouette mugs...

h e l l o

they match my new bedroom

I couldn't possibly pass up

his & her

matching mugs, now could I!!!

Yes, it's 95 degrees here today,

but I already have visions of a chilly Fall morning

the wind blowing leaves all over the yard

the sun has yet to show its face for the day

the house is still quiet

and darling husband brings me my favorite hot beverage in our new

his & her

mugs

while snuggled in bed!!!

Before I present him with his mug and he rolls his eyes even after I tell him how wonderful they look in our room...

I best make a tag that gives detailed instruction that say:

Bring to wife on a chilly morning!!!

Wishing you a lovely first Autumn weekend!!

Sit back

and play
"I Spy The First Leaf" that gently
f a l l s
while having your morning coffee!

a room for 2....

I came back from London altered...

I felt the shift inside me as I explored the city

took in the historical sights

sampled the food

sipped my tea

laughed while enjoying my half pint

&

watched the people coming and going...

I felt a contentment in the air that I instantly knew was special.

One that I didn't want to let go of....

I bottled up the "feelings" I felt

and brought them home with me.

I open the bottle and sprinkled the contents all over my home...

to share it with my loved ones and all who enter my home.

It's a feeling that I want to feel in every room

to be instantly engulfed the minute you open the door

a restful place

peaceful

happy

....content....

to share the days events

to share quiet late night talks while the chickadees sleep

a place to greet the new day with open arms

So when I needed to pick a new paint color for my walls I knew where to look for my inspiration.....

from a dress I love

&

one I wore in London!

Here is

The Dress

and a glimpse into my work in progress bedroom....

I love having a room that is both my taste and my husband's

his & her

so I went with coordinating table lamps and contrasting lampshades

chocolate for him

white for me

vintage french doors behind our nightstands

it's a mix of vintage and new

rustic and feminine

the wall color is Hush by Benjarmin Moore

I mixed it with chocolate and white fabric

ruffels and duckcloth

new and vintage elemants

to create a room for 2

his and her.

P.S. So sorry for my terrible posting updates...

I'm finally in my back to school groove,

the new routine is feeling more like normal
which means I'm finally back to a regual posting schedule!!!
yippee!!!

I'm completely in love!!!
The whimsical touch...
the character it would add to a wall
covered in printed paper...
my favorite!!!!

It has me singing!!!!
I think it is absolutely fabulous!!!
Is it too early to start my Christmas list?!!

footloose & fancy free

Why do I looooove September?

Because the weather is delicious...

it dips

it peaks

it levels out

it teases you that Fall is coming...

just a tease

but enough to

energizes me!!!

&

What possible trouble can I get into when I'm energized......

a whole l o t!!!!

I turned footloose and fancy free this week

did the kiss and drop off at the 2 schools

turned up the radio to speed back home

wiped off the fine dust covering the lid of the paint I picked up weeks ago

{it was on Sale}

couldn't pass up a Sale on paint...

&

went to town!!!

And you know what happens when you go to town....

one thing leads to another....

can't help it...

my ceiling needed a fresh coat of paint

all because of a little new sparkly addition

I mean really you can't have a vintage, sparkly, delicious chandelier with a dull ceiling...

nope, not on my watch!

&

I can't help it if I was grooving out to my latest favorite CD

doing a few dance moves

singing at the top of my lungs

forgetting my roller was not a microphone and had wet dripping paint on it....

yep, I smudged my walls...

in a few places...

well maybe a lot of places....

see how my one thing led to another situation

and another....

there was only one possible solution

pick a whole new color for the walls!!

Why not...

it's the season for change

which means....

I'm feeling footloose!!

P.S. if you think I stopped there you'd be wrong....

the new wall color clashed with a few things....

just a few...

do you think my husband will notice when he comes home tonight?

Wishing you a beautiful weekend

kick off your shoes

dance footloose and fancy free....

just put down the paint brush when you do!!!

Your loved ones will thank me for this advice!

Welcome

to

beautiful

September

my favorite month....

temperatures start to change...

the morning air begins to feel different

schedules are now in full swing with all the kinks worked out

which brings a certain

coziness to the month

comfortable without the cold

so don't blink

don't rush

savor

sweet

September!!!

the power of meatloaf...

28

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

I know what you must be thinking...

that I've had one too many lattes...

or stayed up late picking the perfect color of paint for my master bedroom...

but bare with me a second and my title will make perfect sense...

On Monday, the day I declared a cooking day, little things began to change without my knowledge...

When I announced to my family during a feast of waffles dipped in Nutella that I was making my very first Meatloaf for dinner while they were at school my chickadees looked at me and continued eating...

darling husband's response was,

good luck with that...

his polite words for

eewwww

I never ate that as a kid...

But something told me to not listen to the lack luster response and

make Emeril's Turkey Meatloaf in my latest Everyday with Martha magazine...

I still don't know what possessed me to pick that recipe...

I've never been a fan of Meatloaf myself

but that was the recipe that got me into my kitchen for some serious cooking.

As I chopped

sauteed

defrosted

mixed

added

mixed some more

the universe was working it's magic...

I actually had fun preparing the meatloaf

I went ahead and prepped the salad

tossed in a bucket load of veggies

ahhhh summer time veggies are the best!

set the salad aside

diced some red skinned potatoes

rolled them in EVOO {sorry I couldn't help my self.... I'm on a cooking roll}

sprinkled them with Mediterranean Sea Salt

popped them in the oven to bake...

sat back

and declared it a good

day

one day of cooking down

but whose counting...

{ me, actually }

It was now time for pick up

I hit the High School first

parked the car in the usual spot

prayed for good news

a smile

anything positive to tell me my daughter's world is finding it's balance again...

She hops in the car...

and declared it...

the best day yet!

{She told me not to get too excited, that's not great but she felt better}

my ears heard....

happiness

which I then proceeded to belt out my best rendition of

Alleluia!!!!!

all to the noise of

Oh Mom STOP!

nope, my heart has taken a beating....

I can sing if I want too!!!

Next stop...

Elementary School

i see smiles as my children's names are called...

giggles over how their new school pronounces our last name over the intercom...

It's long...

with loads of vowels...

they pile in the car

talking all at once

high fives from my fifth grader

sweet

it was perfect 10 from my second grader

melt my heart

&

a little fist holding a treasure of bubbles from the treasure box

a big Awards sticker

placed smack dab in the middle of my

little Kindergartner's chest

with a beaming smile

words mixed with laughter while trying to explain what happened...

being the first boy in his class

to be carded to Blue

which means

Above and Beyond Outstanding Behavior for the entire day!!!

Victory!!!

Holy Cow

or

in this case

Holy Turkey

all this in one day

while I was making

Turkey Meatloaf

I've declared it my Official Lucky Meal!!!

It's a keeper!

It's now going to be on a rotating bases of meal planning

It's down right Tasty

the perfect comfort food

that had my taste buds approving of my cooking skills

all

to the groans of my family!!!

If you are interested in the recipe just say YuM

I'll be more then happy to pass it along and spread a dose of goodness to your day and let it work its magic in your home!!!
