Adding color to my day....

It was one of those weeks...

little mountains to climb

extra hurdles to jump...

extra mommy moments...

one on one talks

&

tears to wipe

feelings to sooth

I drove home in the rain this morning...
I thought how fitting it's raining

we need a good "wipe the slate clean" kind of rain

my heart feels heavy....
one of my chicks burst into tears when I said,

have a great day...

come to find out she was worried about free dress day
it wasn't on her her homework sheet....
she was convinced it wasn't for her class too....

thank goodness for an extra sweet music teacher who came to my rescue

swept her up for an extra hug

and ushered her into school...

that's it

I'm taking charge of this day

Just put on my new favorite CD Lady Antebellum

zipping around

giving everything an extra foofing

saving time to dash to the store

for some sweet treat surprises for some very well deserving

chickadees and their parents...

because

it's been one of those weeks....

Here's to a making your own rainbow kind of day!!!

the Great Debate....

34

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Today I offer you a very thought provoking question...

a topic that will have couples discussing this very important issue over a fabulous Merlot and veggie pizza....

One that my husband and I had on Friday night when he returned from travel....

let me tell you a little something about my husband and myself....

my husband is an amazing communicator...

he can take any issue I know he believes in and just for fun he will take the opposite view

just to debate...

to see how I will articulate my opinion...

it never fails...

his words of logic can put me in a complete tizzy

which turns my logic into mush...

hands on my hips accompanied with words of "oh-oh-oh-oh"

My debate professor from college would be mortified...

he would be flabbergasted that all my years of speech communication flew right out the window and left me with a very pathetic stuttering stream of....

oh-oh-oh-oh

&

instead of regrouping

quickly organizing my logic to actually articulate a sentence

I double over

with

laughter that I fell for his antics!!!

However, the question I give to you today is one that I need your help with

I need all of your fabulous logic

for me to study

memorize

spend the week practicing my speech on my 4 year old son

for the very important

Take 2 Debate

scheduled for

Friday night

because last Friday I

just poured more wine after my fit of

oh-oh-oh's!!!

Here's the question I give to you today:

Is it technically shopping when you shop your own

"vintage garage shop" ?

I, of course, said

NO

I shopped our home

&

my very own little vintage shop
{items that were for sale
I can't help it if no one wanted to buy them
I tried to share my finds with others
really I did
I'm all about sharing vintage goodies
spreading the happiness to others...
but just a few treasures needed to say here with me
it must have been
meant to be!!

really

that is not shopping

Come on friends

this girl needs your help!!!

{Country Living}

It's official...

our weather in glorious

bright rays of sunshine

clear blue sky

I feel like I'm finally coming out of my winter cocoon...

my wings are stretching

my toes are begging for a bright polish to finally see the light...

I embraced the switcheroo bug I came down with

attacked my living room with a glee...

called a friend...

How about a girls evening of decorating bliss...

she cleared her scheduled...

arriving after all the chickadees where sound asleep in dreamland...

we toasted our decorating evening with a very cold

Samuel Adams Noble Pils

2 friends, chilled beer & decorating= fabulous new living room

lots and lots of giggles!!!

lugging furniture from varies areas of the house...

getting stuck on the flight of stairs with a rather heavy leather club chair that wouldn't budge...

I knew it came down at one time

logic told me there was away to go up....

as I was holding one end of the club chair

my friend holding the other end

precariously on the stairs...

I had the brilliant idea to call darling hubby {he's on travel}

to ask him how we managed to do it before?

But I encountered a teeny tiny problem...

I couldn't reach the phone!!!

We were stuck!!!

After

laughing to the point of surely thinking the chickadees were going to approach sleepy eyed

&

being rather brilliant after our beer consumption

we figured it out!!!

Oh ya!!!

So this morning I awoke a little bit sleepy...

but quickly swung my feet off the bed

to get a jump start on the day

dashed down the stairs

pour a steamy mug of goodness

plop in a yummy yellow chair sitting in it's new spot

glowing as the morning sun filtered through the window...

Hello Friday!!!

Here's to a weekend of taking the time to giggle, run across the lawn...

and

hold your loved ones tighter!!!

Stay tuned for the pictures of our evening decorating party next week!

xo,

Come on in....

Welcome to my kitchen

where I make my daily latte {or 2}

where homework is done

where a meal or two or three is prepared

where you're sure to find a chickadee with their hand in the snack bin

&

our doodle taking an afternoon nap!

Pull up a seat I'm taking latte orders...

Here is my new and improved kitchen island...

My goal was working with what we had...

to save money and still give me the character I wanted for our kitchen

therefore, I focused on the island to create a focal point by adding farm legs.

beadboard and a new granite top just on the island.

I saved a ton by not putting Granite on the remaining countertop.

therefore, I went with a mix and match theme to tie it all together.

My favorite part of this project was picking the Granite slab...

I embarrassed my husband on our outing out,

but let me tell you he is thanking now that I went through so much trouble!!!

He said, here's your budget....

stick to it

I pinky promised him I would!!!

I was on a mission to show him I could do this without changing everything...

So, this is what I did...

The day we scheduled to go select our Granite at the Rock Company

I took a maple door, sample of our existing laminate,

my vintage creamy buffalo china bowl, the paint color I knew I was going to paint the island {it matches my china {creamy white not stark white} and the yellow paint sample in the kitchen.

Oh yes I did!!

This particular day it snowed...

and the granite slabs are outside!!!

It was freezing!!!

i wore the "wrong" shoes

{picture black patent ballet flats with a slippery bottom hee hee}

and there I was having my husband hold the bowl, as i held the laminate sample, maple door and I passed the the paint samples to the lady helping us...

She looked at my husband with a look of "are you kidding me"

He said, "Yes, I married her.... just go with it!"

What can I say, I went prepared!!!

I had a mission!!!

Give me a decorating mission and I'm all business!!!

We walked and walked

sampled and sampled

the last slab we came to

stopped me in my slippery tracks...

I quickly held all the components of the kitchen on the slab and knew we'd found it!!!

It has all the colors I needed to pull the kitchen together in a mix matchy sort of way...

So me!!!

Mixy Matchy

FYI

I made a very important decision....

hold onto your latte cups...

I've decided my island needs some baubles...

yummy knobs to finish it off..

still need to pick them out...

it'll happen...

hopefully soon...

I think I'll need to pick a few and have you help me select the right knobs!!!

With every project there always happens to have a last minute touch added...

it happened here...

I added the beadboard to the backsplash

to tie it all together

but

still left my chalkboard...

cause I still love it...

one touch I didn't do which I definitely plan to sneak in

is trim out the chalkboard with the trim I used on the beadboard...

can't believe I wasn't thinking when I did it...

oh well!!

I've also decided i need to add another barstool...

or stools...

hmmm and changing the fabric on my current ones...

{I'm just saying I'm thinking about in case hubby asks}

I hope you enjoyed your visit...

I loved having you here...

pop on by anytime,

you know where you'll find me!!!

P.S. hubby is leaving tomorrow and I'm moving furniture in the living room...

why?

it's Spring!!

&

I've got the

switcheroo feeling....

&

it's highly contagious!

Good Morning!!! I'm refreshed and ready for a creative week.

During my few weeks of preoccupation with worry my creativity took a back seat...

but after all the wonderful words of encouragement, understanding, support I feel at ease again...

with feelings of "okayness"

my creativity tapped me on the shoulder reminding me I work best when I use my creativity to work out my thoughts.

So lets get to that....

with a whole lot of island love....

I love kitchen islands.

I was thrilled our home had one...

it had great bones but was missing the eclectic flavor I love.

It was so safe....standard...

&

matchy, matchy

until I got my hands on it...

actually I got my hands on it once I directed my "wood cutting, nail hammering crew"

what to do and finished....

We didn't need to completely start from scratch.

Like I mentioned it had a great base that was functional it just needed to be larger

and was in need of character.

Which I fixed by adding beadboard and 3 farm legs!!!

Love legs on an island...

we added wider trim to the base....

&

I ordered a new countertop!!!

The last stage is where I said goodbye to the professionals and ran for the sander, primer and paint!!!

Goodbye beautiful maple...

hello

____________

{fill in the blank}

I'll show you how I filled in the blank tomorrow!!!

Have a wonderful Spring Forward day with a lot more caffeine...

love the longer days but wow that lost hour has me heading to the espresso machine!!

Savoring the sights and sounds...

37

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

I'm trying so hard to "focus" on my surroundings...

savor the laughter of my children...

sit with my son on my lap to read a pile of books he's selected...

Memorize the smile of victory on my 9 year old daughter's face when I taught her to ride a bike on Sunday without training wheels...

together we concurred the fear of falling together...

and off she to took...

yesterday we accomplished turning....

she was convinced if she turned the handle bars she would fall....

I clapped and cheered from the driveway...

slowly turn the handlebars...

you can do it...

trust yourself...

it'll be okay...

she did it

victory!!!

She then stopped the bike

hopped off

look at me to make sure I witnessed this huge event...

I had my arms up in triumph with her brother hooting and hollering!!!

I find myself being able to encourage my children to overcome their fears...

no obstacle is to big to over come...

instilling in them a strong faith in the Lord that he is always with us...

but for the last couple of weeks I'm finding myself gripped in my own "fear"

fear of making the wrong decision regarding their education...

Logic tells me that my husband and I have turned our decision we had to make upside down,

inside out

and came to the conclusion that is right for our family...

now I'm going through the roller coaster of emotions...

feeling complete certainty

then bam

fear...

it sets in

fear of the unknown

what ifs....

and the more I let the fear take over the

what ifs grow...

so I found myself on the sidelines today

witnessing my daughter ride her bike like she's being doing it more than 3 days

with her head up

grinning from ear to ear

not wanting to stop

when the sun set

off the bike she hopped

looked at me and asked, "Can we do this again tomorrow if it doesn't rain?"

absolutely!!!

As I pulled all the bikes in I found myself yearning for the simplicity of concurring the fear of riding a bike without training wheels...

then I gave myself a "good taking to"

Why am I letting fear grab hold of me

Why am I not following the advice I able to dish out to my children.

if I'm suppose to expect my children to have faith, trust their instincts

aren't I suppose to follow my own advice.

As I tucked them in tonight I hugged them all little longer

till they basically said umm Mom you can let go now...

turned off the light

shut the door

and came to the conclusion that conquering my worries regarding my children is going to be an on going battle.

They'll always exist no matter what age they are....

but I can't and wont let them overshadow all the beauty that surrounds us!!!

My Sweet Chick...

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Fly on over for a visit to the

Sweet Treat Bakery

to create one of a kind cupcakes!!!

My daughter's friends flew in to celebrate her

7Th birthday...

I had 7 very professional bakers in my kitchen

creating all sorts of edible master pieces...

frosting was swirled

smeared

licked

mixed

you name it they made it...

heaping mounds of sprinkle goodness

was excitedly topped on to the fluffy frosting

after it was properly sampled...

After all of the delicious cupcakes were decorated to the bakers perfection

they were carefully placed in pretty tins to make there way home for their parents to see

and if they were lucky enough to sample!!!

Before, I released the sugar cover, frosting licking friends

they made a stop at the Sweet Treat Candy Bar for

some extra sugar goodness

cause really can you have too many sweets... I greeted the arriving parents with apologies...

please forgive me...

they sampled

a lot of sugar!!!

I didn't think about it until I finally flopped down last night that I should have attached a new toothbrush to their candy bag!!!
As I tucked my chickadee into bed she wrapped her arms around my neck and whispered

I loved my party!!

That's all it took for me to happily come back into the kitchen armed with my vacuum

and attack the sprinkles that were not so lucky and found there way everywhere else but on a cupcake!!!

Wishing you all an evening of Sweet Dreams,

xo,

my day with my little guy...

38

Thursday, March 4, 2010

My constant companion has been by my side all week as I've been preparing for his sister's birthday party tomorrow...

he has been my little helper...

holding the pink dishes, multicolored sprinkles, and assortment of girly party supplies
he does it with the best mood...

as long as we walk by the Lego section and Wii Mario Super Brothers, Indiana Jones games he will shop till I drop!!!

But for the next couple of weeks it's all about his 3 sisters....

yep, not one party but 3 birthday parties

boom... boom ...boom...

So, today we had a morning date, stood for an hour looking at all things boy...
picked out a pirate shirt...
and decided that a stop for some Chicken minis from Chick~ Fil~ A would hit the hunger spot
he quickly devoured them on the car ride home....

and since today it's all about him I thought you may like a peek into his room...

come on in and make yourself comfortable...

He loves his room...

I wanted to write something on his wall but I didn't know what I should write...

one night I was mulling it over...

my husband was trying to work as I mumbled to myself and he simple said,

Fair Winds and Following Seas

it was perfect.

ahhh the vintage touch has even made it to his room...

I found this old school desk...

it's legs were rusty and the top was dirty but the minute I saw it I knew it was perfect for his room....

I freshened it up with fresh spray paint on the legs...

hit the top with a sander and stained it....

he now sits at his desk and colors...

My son loves to collect things outside... rocks, sticks, has large collection of cars...

they are stored in his very cool old locker....

and the best part is it's spray painted red.... love the splash of red for his room!!

thanks for stopping in...

hope you enjoyed your stay...

We're off to make some cupcakes....

and I promised him some blue frosting!!!
