Sharing my "New Favorite Find"....
Just arrived in the mail.....
I had to add a Chalkydoodle to my wine!!!!

I added them to my hall closet... labeled my baskets.... so excited!

My latest and greatest find!
I have been waiting for two weeks for my special order of Chalkydoodles!
It was worth the wait!!!!
I stumbled across these labels sitting in the carpool line waiting for my kids. The littlest was sound asleep in his car seat and I was enjoying the 20 minutes of quiet flipping through a early spring issue of BHG special publication "Storage".
And there they were.
When I arrived back home I immediately went to the computer to bring up the website and to my delight Etsy appeared!
I bought them on the spot!
Coming from a Etsy Mom makes this purchase so special!
Thank you Lyn for my "too cute" chalkydoodles!
I am thrilled beyond words with how they look. You can find more of Lyn's amazing items here http://www.chalkydoodles.com/
I will be a returning customer! Look how fun labeling can be!
I am officially crazy for chalkydoodles!!!

Dash 1, the oldest, the watcher of her siblings....
Dash 4, 2 and 3 (order on the sled)

Dash 3

Dash 4

This week was interrupted with a short day of school. A snow day and a two hour delay day.
Laundry can wait, chores will always be there, dinner can be scrambled eggs and toast, it's okay! I really wanted to be inside fluffing the home, but no, I can fluff later... snow days don't happen all the time in our neck of the woods so I enjoyed the laughter and the cold.... but confess was glad to come inside when they were done.
Only one child in tears from a sledding collision with her brothers head... he does have a really hard head... some red checks, two snowmen built. I call that a successful three days.

They are all growing so fast. I realized that when Dash 2 didn't have snow pants that fit... she said she was fine with long underwear and jeans.... seeing the wet jeans made me cringe but hubby reminded me that they are kids and kids don't mind.... okay.... if you say so.... please don't catch a cold...

Waking up this morning to a regular day which entailed breakfast and lunches being made, quizzing a child for her spelling and religion tests... grabbing cans of food for the food drive they are having at school and lecturing a child about compassion for a sibling that annoyed them this morning. Topping it off with Dash 4 not wanting to leave the house because Curious George was not over. Which led to a tears, but was over them by the time I pulled out of the garage ( his fussing is short lived, he is so easy)

Melissa at theinspiredroom.net/
is having her Friday Beautiful Life series. This is my beautiful life. I saw the beauty in taking life as it comes. Interruption are healthy. Scrambled eggs are wonderful for dinner. And morning chaos comes with the package. I would not want it any other way. Overcoming obstacles makes a closer family. I may be behind in everything I have to do... I will zip around now get what I can accomplished because tonight is pizza night! That in itself is a beautiful thing!!
Happy Friday to all!

100 Post

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Where has the time gone! Seasons changed, three holidays past, two semesters of my daughter's school have been completed, the children's shoe size changed, have had more laughs than tears, potty trained my son, improved my fitness age playing the Wii, completed a couple organizational projects, painted, enjoyed wine with hubby, rearranged furniture, vintage shopped, and discovered the wonderful world of blogging. All of this and many more memories have been made ever sense I began blogging.

This is my 100 post! It's so funny. I remember when I didn't blog and reflecting on that time I can't believe how much I have missed. My life's journey has brought me to different country's, different states, had to say many goodbye's to friends I have met on this journey... military family, goes with marrying a Marine. Blogging has introduced me to an incredible amount of talented, funny, thought provoking, adorable families that I wish were my neighbors. Read tutorial on how to make slip covers, distress furiture, great places to shop and recipes that were a hit with there families and much more. So thank you for everyone who took the time to read my blog. Thank you to everyone who liked it enough to come back and read new posts. Thank you to all the sweet comments. They don't get old... I even reread them... I knew so little about blogging before I started. I think if I knew more I honestly think I would have been intimidated my all the talented people out there. From cooking meals that make me aspire to be a better cook. Crafty goodness that makes me ohh and ahhh and makes me want to run to Michael's to make what I just saw. To all the wonderful bloggers who take incredible pictures that are in the blogging world. Holy cow the pictures of your children, home, nature, whatever pictures you post are always beautiful... The bloggers who sew and knit - I really want to learn, and to the bloggers who write there thoughts, feeling, beliefs, funny stories and just about having a rough day, life moments, I have learned so much. I describe bloggers as people who share. You share decorating secrets, favorite recipes, lifes bumps in the road, mommy moments that make me feel connected..... Just simple Share!
After all this reflection I have done I am sharing a few things about myself. No particular order just random things about me.

Daydreaming Kind Of Day....

Our shed that dreams to be a cottage....

I have a dream.... it's a little dream...
I dream of having a cottage in my backyard for dear friends, our loved family members, welcomed guest....
a place for a peaceful retreat...

Very Simple...

Just the necessities... electricity!

One room cottage filled with vintage finds, bed with a down comforter and a big mound of pillows, worn quilt folded at the end of the bed.

Great old table for multipurpose needs, eating, writing, playing card, blogging...
Comfy chair with ottoman, old bench placed at the foot of the bed... stacked high with books.
The kind of books you always say you will read while on vacation.
A guest book for all to sign and date their visit... share their favorite memory of their stay.
Open shelving to hold basic items one may need while in the cottage.

This dream cottage is nestled just in the tree's...
A place for the children to play... for their imagination to grow...

A cottage retreat at home.
A place where friend's can't wait to schedule their next trip to our simple little cottage nestled in the tree's with a view of the pool...

....ring of the phone....

School closing are being announced because of bad weather...
must run inside now....
It's definitely a hot chocolate with extra mini marshmallow's kind of day...
I'll put the "dream cottage" on the shelve for the time being to collect dust... I'll think about it out again, shake it off and add to this dream..
Do you have a dream? Do tell....

Function And Passion

Don't you just love it when you are hit with an inspiration when you least expect it?

This usually happens to me at the worst time... running late, just finished getting everyone feed, four heads of hair brushed, ran back up stairs to finish getting ready ... time is ticking... the kids are getting their shoes on... coats and gloves... calling "Mom" ....

I was searching for a necklace to wear, it's like brushing my teeth, I am just not completely ready to tackle the day without something around my neck...

In that hurried moment I remembered I picked up a belt hanger for $1 over the weekend.
Sure enough, I took a second to grab the belt hanger tossed some necklaces on the hooks and then hung it in my window frame on the wall of my closet.

This functional belt hanger, turned into be quite handy. It is now adorned with my collection of necklaces and framed in my passion for old windows.
I say that makes for a great start to my Monday morning.
And we weren't late heading out the door....

Hello, Cupcake!

Thank goodness it's Friday!
It must be the cold because I am tired today. I always panic when this "tired" feeling comes on. My mind instantly goes to all the everyday things that need to get done.
I did the basic, must do things, that brings me peace of mind. Once I dropped the girls off at school my "little man" and I made all the beds, grabbed the laundry, tossed it in the washer. Unloaded last night's dishes from the dishwasher, reloaded breakfast dishes.
Made a house out of Lincoln Logs.... "I almost did it like daddy" he said! I had to tell him he was right. Daddy makes way better cabins then I do.
Wiped down the counters and made a pot of green tea!
Instead of fighting the tired feeling I am officially giving myself the day to be "unproductive". AHH just saying it brought a smile to my face.
So, I made a pot of green tea.... trying to at least have one mug a day....
today I went with a pot!!!
and opening up my "latest favorite book" I received from my kids for Christmas.
Just flipping through the pages makes you feel better.
Put your feet up with me and pour yourself a cup of something "hot" and...
Look how cute these cupcakes are....
Slumber Party
Must make! Just darling!! Next time my daughter's have a sleep over I have to make these with the kids!!!

March Of The Penguins
Love them! Makes feeling cold seem so much better and fun!!!!
I love penguins, too cute...

Westies
My 8 year old has requested that I make these for her class on her birthday.
She is my huge, huge dog lover!

Corn On The Cobb
I have to make these for April Fools Day!
What a fun treat to celebrate a practical joke filled day.... which my kids find so much pleasure in.
The detail on these cupcakes is amazing....

What A Hoot
Love, Love ... look at their eyes! Another birthday request from my 12 year old who loves owls.
And there are many more pages of amazing cupcakes ....
Cupcakes put me in the best mood. So happy and whimsical.
Just what I needed today... bummer I don't have a tray made ... another time!
There's always tomorrow....

thanks for sitting with me and I hope these pictures of "too cute" cupcakes brought a smile to your day.
Happy Friday to all!

Seeing The Beauty In Junk

11

Thursday, January 22, 2009

While I was standing outside waiting to begin my hunt in search of treasures I took these picture's of item's that made me stop and think... plus I was freezing and had to distract myself from thinking about the cold!
I can't believe I'm sharing my thoughts about these sink, but I'm being brave today and throwing it out there.... can't wait to hear what you think!!!
Seeing sinks on the ground with leaves in them made my heart to beat faster.... I know I'm nutty... I started looking at them with a more creative eye of repurposing them. What came to mind was a "bird bath"!
I liked the way the sink bowl sits tilted on the ground...
I picture little birds arriving in my yard for a bath or drink in this sink.
I even went so far as to think about painting the sink, to give it a copper or bronze look to it, as it sits on the wash rock we have in our yard.....
Now remember, I was just having these thoughts!!
I know you are probable thinking "LuLu" is crazy.
But it intrigued me to think of using household item's for different things.
Without looking like a threw a sink in my yard!
I wouldn't want my neighbors to talk....
I am admitting to everyone that if I could have, I would have come home on Saturday with a couple of old window's. Yep, I love them! I don't have the time to do all the wonderful things I would love to do with them but they sure do pull at my heart when I look at them....

My silly picture of old coke bottles!
I took a picture of these same bottles last month sitting in the same spot. But this morning they all had frozen ice in them .... being 4 degree's and all.
They always catch my eye.... don't worry I would not have brought these home.
I just think it makes a neat picture.
Just wanted to share a few pictures of my junking outing....
Have a great day, can't believe it's Thurday!

Husband and "The Hutch".....

11

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

When I came home on Saturday, all giddy from my morning out, the hutch was the last item I needed to drag into the house. My other treasures were greeted by my loved ones with smiles and "cool Mom" remarks... they know me so well. I love to hear their feedback on my finds. Well, as I was heading back out to the car I needed my hubby's help to unload my hutch.
His radar immediately went up!
I instantly began to reassure him that I found such a great and wonderful hutch that he won't be disappointed. Trust me!
He still gave me the skeptical eye as we made the walk to the car.
Oh no, once he saw it he didn't react the way I thought he would.
You see, "we" not just "me" have really been wanting a cabinet for a spot in our kitchen.
During the holidays I repurposed a piece of furniture that was in our guest room to place in this kitchen spot. Turned out I really liked it.
But, I thought how great it would be if I could just find something to put above it.
So, when I saw this lovely hutch hanging on the wall at the Vintage Source, I knew I needed it. I was in my vintage frenzy.... my mind was spinning of ideas, places I could use it etc...
I mean really who can't use a cabinet hanging on a wall....
I just knew it had to come home with me!
Now back to darling husband and the hutch.......
There it sat, on it's side, for two long days on the floor.....
I would walk by, run my hand on it's side and think how lovely it will be in it's new home....
if I can convince "darling husband" to HANG it!!!!
He is not a fan of "HANGING" things..... I know this! (we are soul mates)
I even asked at the store "is it hard to hang?"
.... they assured me that it was easy....
Hubby looked at me and proceeded to take a long time to explain to me that in fact it is not that easy to hang and here are the reason.....
I wanted it hung on the wall where my washer and dryer are hooked up on the opposite side. These pipes run to our upstairs...
and it is a tad bit heavy.... 50 pounds!
We don't have a stud finder.
Oh.....
with a twinkle in my eye I still persevered.... but can it be done!!!!!
My goodness he loves me....he can't possible not do this for me!
I pushed our 4 children out my body.... somethings in life that are difficult, are worth it!!!
I had to share all I went through to save this hutch from a crushing machine.
I knew I could not ask him to hold it in order to see how high I wanted it placed....
I may have lost some brain cells nursing our children,
but I know when not to ask him to hold a 50 pound cabinet over his head for me to say,
"a little to the left, down on the right, now higher or sorry can you lower it."
Solution....
Yes, I took the time to make a template....
he still didn't find humor in my resourceful thinking...
dang...
I prepped the wall.... got the ladder, drill, called a neighbor for a stud finder
(prayed really hard that the stud finder would work)
and prayed again it would line up with where I wanted it hung.
My prayer's were answered!
Oh my goodness....
he did it....
and I love it....

LoVed the lines of the cabinet....

It all worked out....

the studs were exactly where I wanted it placed...
Only four holes were needed to drill...
no mistakes in measurements...
and it's still hanging...
I'm exhausted.
But I am "happy!"
thAnk yOu "lOve of mY LiFe" for hanging my hutch!!!!
I know he is happy too....

Vintage Weekend

7

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I am still floating around my home with the memory of my weekend of vintage shopping....

The alarm was set for 6AM Saturday morning (I didn't need it) I was awake already with a major case of anticipation of heading out for my morning of vintage shopping. Thank goodness this vintage outing of mine only happens one weekend, once a month or I could be in serious trouble. I always say I "so wish" the store I love so much would be open more, but to tell you the truth, if it was darling husband would not be so supportive of this passion I have!

So there I was with my grandee vanilla, skim, extra hot latte in hand, seat warmers on, bundled up and yes I wore my neck warmer (and it brought me good luck, thanks again Mom), picked a friend up to keep me somewhat controlled and headed out. She sat in the car toasty warm sipping the latte I made her, ( I had to bribe her to come with me) the latte did the trick! I had to stand in 4 degree temperature and was "thrilled" to be there. Let me tell you I do not stand in line for just anything! It's gotta be good. I stood there just waiting and wondering what was inside the store to be found.

Which now brings me to my vintage finds from this weekend.....

I am crazy for chairs. In December I found the perfect chair for my daughter that I gave her for Christmas which we both "love". After some rearranging that I have been doing these past few weeks, I found myself needing a chair for my family room. I was determined to find a chair at my vintage store and have it slip covered. I was also willing to wait as long as it took to find the right chair. Well guess what? I found it. The size and style completely work for the corner it's going in. I love the legs of the chair, way cute! It's so easy for me to see beyond the fabric and vision it with a wonderful duck cloth slipcover with a little pleated hem. Dreamy!!!!

My next find was this fabulous iron chandelier! The shape is amazing. The petite size is to die for! I so wish it had been electric, but if it had it would have been more and she is too cute already.

Once I spied the wire basket I made a quick dash to grab the tag. It was a definite need! Yes, darling hubby I wrote need!

Then came the "Sap Bucket" which you already got a glimpse of in my coat closet. The yellow paint on it made it even more charming. And it's holding the umbrella's just perfectly.

Last, but not at all least is my "cabinet hutch"! Oh my goodness where to begin. I need to dedicate an entire post to her! yes, I am calling a cabinet her. I don't call all my furniture by her only really really special ones that put me in a trance and just know I can't leave the store without it. While I was paying for the cabinet, Michelle the owner of this store, asked me where I was going to use it. I looked at her with stars in my eyes and said I have no idea. I haven't thought that far ahead! i just need it. I know, I have heard and been told all about need verses want!!! (Somethings in life just aren't that cut and dry) To me, it was a need depending on who you are asking. Please just don't ask darling husband! He is my incredible husband and we can finish each others sentences. Our tastes work well together. But when he saw me come home with this hutch.... I had to do some serious sweet talking about me vision and why I couldn't pass it up. We never argue and he is not the type to be grumpy. He is my Mr. Darling Hubby! But darling husband and dreamy hutch did not see eye to eye like I thought they would! I'll write more tomorrow about how they became friends!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Inauguration Day,

Olive Branch Turns Over a New Leaf

My once uninspiring and unorganized little closet is now a happy little closet all because of it's new color! Painting the closet was the perfect motivation I needed to get myself to finally come up with an organizational system that will work for my family.

Besides the new paint color, the biggest change was adding a cubby system. Finding one with six cubbies turned out to be perfect solution... one for each member of the family! I'm still having too much fun labeling everything, I just had to add some numbers into the mix! Therefore, I used my glue gun to label the cubbies 1 through 6 and assigning everyone a number... started with hubby and ended with the youngest. I am constantly coming across library books from the kids that I find on tables or beds and come library day I hear, " Mom have you seen my library books?" Now, I can place books and other items we need when we are heading out the door in their cubbies.

Added a wooden shelf to the top for storing four boxes. The boxes are holding extra winter gear, sunscreen and miscellaneous item that find there way into a coat closet. The last touch I added was placing a Smith & Hawkens garden tray on the floor ( I purchased one two weeks ago and loved it so much I needed a second one). It fit the space perfectly.

While I was "vintaging" this weekend I came across a "Sap Bucket"... yep, a bucket to collect sap from Maple Trees! How could I not bring a sap bucket home to hold my umbrella's... actually I had a couple other things I would have loved to do with it.... but I had to remind myself it was for the umbrella's that needed a home.

There you have it. The closet that asked for a new color is completed! My second project for this year is done and it is only January 18. What should i tackle next? My wheels are already spinning... any suggestions? I would love to hear them! I just may get a lot accomplished this year... wouldn't that feel great!
